Once the madness of the festive season has passed, January is the ideal time for salons to take stock of what worked in the previous year and what can be improved. Many salon owners use as this opportunity to make changes and to set themselves up for success for the New Year. This spring why not spring clean your entire business, not just your salon!
What do you want to achieve in 2019? Do you and your team have clear, measurable and realistic goals for the coming year? Working with your team to set targets is a great way to ensure everyone is involved, is positive and it’s a great way to start a new year! Are there any awards you want to enter? If so, what do you need to do to have the best chance of winning?
Build on Success Consider your successes from 2018 – what worked really well and gave you the best results? This can be anything from staff training you invested in, a new product line or a promotion that worked brilliantly. Consider how you can build on this success and achieve more in 2019.
What can be improved? Reviewing the previous year can be difficult if there were problems. Look at these areas without attaching blame. What could have been done differently? What would achieve better results? Focussing on how to improve and involving the whole team in doing this can really help to turn past problems into future successes.
Why not convert wasted space into a revenue-generating area?
One area that salon owners often look at in January is their laundry room. The laundry room is a huge cost to salons and it wastes a massive amount of space. Why not make the switch from cotton towels, washing machines and tumble dryers to compact Easydry disposable towels? Salons that use Easydry have been able to get rid of their laundry room entirely and convert the space into a more productive area like a new backwash, a styling station or even a beauty room. What could you do with the space currently being use for laundry?
Gary Hooker and Michael Young from Hooker and Young were one of the first salons to make the switch to Easydry. They are using Easydry disposable towels in all of their salons and haven’t looked back since the made the switch:
“When we first changed over, we were unsure about what clients reactions would be, going from a cotton towel to an Easydry towel. I can hand on heart say, that the benefits really outweigh any negatives that we thought may have arisen. The fact that they are individual, personal to the client and it’s really clean and clinical outweighed everything else. It’s been really amazing. We’ve used Easydry for years and for us it’s been fantastic. We don’t see anything replacing Easydry because I don’t think there’s anything better out there to replace it. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.”

Jamie Stevens is also a fan Easydry disposable towels. He made the switch in all of his salons and uses Easydry backstage at shows and when travelling. He loves the fact that the towels are compostable and have FSC Certification, showing that they are made from wood fibre from sustainably managed forests. Jamie explains:
“When our clients come into the salon, we are all about five star luxury service. I’ve got specialists in every single field, of every aspect of hairdressing – from colour specialist to extension specialists, to afro specialists to the best assistants we can find, the best coffee, the best products and the best towels – Easydry Towels!”
However, Jamie was delighted to find that not only were Easydry towels an eco-friendly choice, they also helped him to save time, space and money. Even better, his staff now have more time for training and looking after clients, rather than wasting time on repetitive laundry!
“I just recently refurbished my Kensington salon, and we all know that time is money and space is money. Making the switch to Easydry enabled me to get rid of our washing machine and our tumble dryer. I even saved money on electricity and washing powder. From my point of view of profitability, since I’ve been using Easydry, it enables me to utilise my money better. I’m no longer paying my assistants to make sure that the tumble dryer is running and the towels are dry. It allows them to actually do their job properly and it gives me to have more time to educate them.”[Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIYheMq9hjI&t=3s}
