From the 1st July, Australia is introducing new wages courtesy of the 2016 pay guide for the Hair and Beauty Industry Award 2010, which has just been released. This new pay guide is part of the Minimum Wage Panel within the Fair Work Commission (FWC) review and it sets minimum wages for all employees, including the hair and beauty industries.
The decision has been made to increase the national minimum wage by 2.4%. This increase applies to all employers and it is your duty to recalculate the wage rates – those that do not may have penalty rates applied! In addition to this change, the tool allowance wage has been increased as has the meal allowance for employees working overtime without getting 24 hours notice.
Many salons have made the switch to Easydry Disposable Towels because they no longer want their stylists or apprentices wasting valuable time on salon laundry. Easydry estimates that in some salons, juniors or apprentices may spend up to 50% of their time collecting, washing, drying, folding and redistributing towels around the salon. With these recent changes to wages, now could be a good time to re-examine how your staff spend their time. Would you prefer them to do laundry or to train and focus on your clients?
